In The Heat Of The Morning - David Bowie

I like to listen to this song when the mornings start to get cold. The Bowie At The Beeb compilation kicks off my annual late summer, early fall Bowie fascination. I mean, there’s no bad time for Bowie, but I get really into his stuff, especially up through ‘79, right about now. I think the change of the seasons and my memories of this time of year mix into something spiritually special, and it’s accentuated by the music. I might post a lot of Bowie in the coming days.

This song.

On the snowy street
Knowing it was for the best,
She hugs him, goodbye.

“How do they purr?”

“Ah, it was one of nature’s greatest mysteries, my dear! They have a unique system of cogs and pulleys that stores energy from the breath and keeps a little pinwheel in constant motion!”

Homage to My Hips

these hips are big hips.
they need space to
move around in.
they don’t fit into little
petty places. these hips
are free hips.
they don’t like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.
i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top
